Welcome to One of the Kids online. This course will provide you with substantial information to support your advocacy for your child at school. All tips and strategies provided are backed up with research evidence and a human rights approach. Inclusive education is one of the most valuable things parents can pursue in setting children up for an inclusive adult life. The course includes self-directed learning, online live sessions to connect and hear from a parent leader, and opportunities for questions and comment.
Course Presenters and Family Leaders
Alison is a passionate parent advocate, for her daughter with disability through both the state and independent education systems, and for all students to learn together, with high expectations, in diversity rich classrooms.
Karen manages multiple teams within Family Advocacy, enhancing families’ knowledge and skills to enable them to effectively advocate for a life of meaningful community inclusion for their family member with a disability. For 15 years she has supported hundreds of families navigating through the education years.
Jackie joined the advocacy team in 2018 bringing her experience of over 12 years as a family worker, and as the mother of three children, the eldest of whom has the attribute of autism spectrum. As a family, they have together successfully navigated the mainstream education system.
